RECIPOL: Collaborative network for the research and development of recycling and recovery techniques for polyurethane materials.
The task of recycling materials, especially from fossil sources, presents increasingly complex challenges in various sectors. The Cervera RECIPOL network was created to research and develop recycling and recovery technologies for polyurethane materials, which are highly difficult to recycle and are used in many industries such as footwear, furniture, automotive and construction.

The task of recycling materials presents increasingly complex challenges in various sectors. In the specific case of polyurethane materials, widely used in industries such as footwear, furniture, automotive or construction, recycling and recovery systems seek to reduce dependence on fossil sources and minimize the environmental impact of waste at the end of its useful life cycle.
The Cervera RECIPOL network has been created with the aim of carrying out a strategic program of R&D activities, in a collaborative way among five technological centers of excellence, committed to the circular economy and innovation in sustainable materials, with the main objective of researching and developing technological solutions for recycling and recovery of waste that is difficult to recycle, such as polyurethane-based materials.
The recycling and recovery systems for polyurethane materials will focus on reducing both the dependence on fossil fuels and the environmental impact caused by the waste resulting from the end of the life cycle of products containing polyurethane or generated in the industries during the manufacturing process of these materials.
The centers that make up the cluster intend to strengthen through these developments their position both nationally and internationally in R&D related to the circular economy, recycling and improving sustainability in waste management, so that it translates into greater capabilities for participation in R&D projects and transfer of viable and profitable results to industry.
The RECIPOL project is subsidized by the CDTI, through the Cervera program for Technological Centers, and grants Funditec the accreditation of “Cervera Center of Excellence”.
