The NewSkin project aims to develop innovative industrial and consumer products thanks to nano-enabled surfaces and membranes in various fields such as ceramics, water treatment, renewable energies or medical devices.
Nano-enabled surfaces and membranes have a huge potential to offer material solutions to address Sustainable Development Goals resulting in positive and sound impacts for the society and key industrial sectors. However, the challenges that reduce nano-enabled surfaces and membranes commercialization to market are various: low productivity of manufacturing processes, difficulties to develop mass production processes specially for big components, reduced robustness and reliability of available processes for nano-formulated coatings, nano-security and nano-safety issues, and more.
The NewSkin Project aims to create an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) to provide the Innovation Ecosystem (IE) with the necessary technologies, resources and services to uptake a set of game changing, efficient and cost effective innovative processes to manufacture nano-enabled industrial and consumer products as well as the necessary testing capabilities to demonstrate nano-enhanced goods features. The NewSkin innovative manufacturing up-scaling and testing facilities bring within the reach of the IE the necessary tools to create and validate to TRL7 new market opportunities
The project started officially on the 1st of April, counts on the participation of 35 partners from 12 different countries in the EU and outside. It will last for 48 months with a budget of 15.618.250,89€ and is financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.
