On March 29, 2021 the CDTI (Center for Industrial Technological Development) approved the project “OREL, predictive platform for Malware propagation” presented jointly by BOTECH and the Foundation for the Development of Innovation and Technology (FUNDITEC), within the line of R+D+i Projects for funding.
FUNDITEC, Foundation for Development and Technological Innovation, is established as a private non-profit R&D center whose mission is to offer applied research and technology services in the field of Advanced Materials and Cybersecurity. FUNDITEC is firmly committed and positioned in the value chain of national and European technological development, providing a differential value to the company in the development of sustainable technological innovation to respond to the current needs of society and the economy. Within the field of Cybersecurity, FUNDITEC develops innovative solutions to reduce the risk of cyber threats to all types of organizations. FUNDITEC’s capabilities range from design to data capture and analysis to prototyping. To do so, FUNDITEC uses cutting-edge technologies applied in Big-Data environments, based on Data Science and Data Privacy, as well as Machine Learning algorithms, AI, Blockchain and decentralized file systems and databases.
For BOTECH, R&D is one of the essential aspects of the company’s development and growth. Its goal is to always be ahead of the needs of companies and public bodies in the area of cybersecurity in order to anticipate, as far as possible, a cyber-attack and minimize its consequences. The funding of this project is an important recognition both for the company in general and for the team of professionals managing and developing the project.
The use of the Internet has increased enormously in recent years, both at a domestic and business level. This, as expected, has been reflected in a significant increase in the number of malware attacks and intrusions in computer systems around the world. It is also worth noting that in the current circumstances, due to the global pandemic generated by COVID-19, this increased use of the Net has become an important weapon for cybercriminals. The described scenario poses one of the biggest problems facing today’s society and is defined as the starting point of this research and innovation project.
What is the main objective of Orel?
The general objective of the “Orel” project is to research and develop a technologically advanced and interactive platform for the detection of Android OS malware. Based on Machine Learning, these detections allow to feed the prediction model for the propagation of such malware.
To achieve the global constitution of the platform, it will be necessary to develop three automatic systems capable of interacting with each other and based on methodologies based on the exploitation of Machine Learning technology:
- Data extraction engines.
- Digital epidemic prediction algorithm.
- Machine Learning Platform.
The interrelation between the three systems that make up the project will allow the complete solution to “learn” and mechanically optimize the gear on the basis of which the outgoing technical information of the final Orel tool will be supported.
This recognition corroborates once again our vision of the importance of innovation in the world of cybersecurity and is a huge motivation for the Funditec team to continue innovating more and better.
