Introducing the HICCUPS Project: Transforming CO2 Emissions into Sustainable Packaging

We are excited to announce the launch of the HICCUPS project, a groundbreaking initiative funded by the European Union. The HICCUPS project seeks to address two pressing challenges simultaneously: reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from wastewater treatment plants and creating a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. How? By converting the biogenic CO2 emissions from these facilities into biomass-based plastics that are fully biodegradable and made from renewable raw materials.

At the forefront of HICCUPS are cutting-edge technologies to capture CO2, convert it into monomers and polymerize it to produce the unique biodegradable copolymer PLGA. This material offers excellent water and gas barrier properties and has the potential to replace fossil polyethylene in a variety of applications.

To ensure we are on the right track, HICCUPS employs digital modeling, life cycle assessments and a comprehensive business case analysis from project inception. This data-driven approach sets clear objectives for technology development and advancement.Meet Our Partners
