A new project, which is set to revolutionise tidal turbine blades, has begun developing a state-of-the-art computer model to simulate blade wear and tear. The simulations will be used by the NEMMO (Next Evolution in Materials and Modelling for Ocean energy) project team to deliver a more performant class of turbine blade. The NEMMO project will both improve the yield of tidal turbines and bring down the cost of producing energy from the tides. The
The project, Next Evolution in Materials and Models for Ocean Energy (NEMMO), will boost the competitiveness of tidal energy by optimising tidal turbine blade design and performance.  It aims to create a larger, lighter and more durable composite blade for floating tidal turbines, enabling devices to reach capacities of over 2 MW. The project will: Design, model and test blade materials and prototypes Enable developers to significantly reduce both capital and operational costs Improve the
On the 6th and 7th of June, the Funditec presented a poster of the Hyposens project at the SBAN (Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials). This was the second edition of the conference, that took place this time in the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid – ICMM – CSIC. Funditec, participating in the Hyposens project, presented a poster about its activities in the field of nanomaterials for biomedical applications. Hyposens is developing
